Linda Barry
Born in Dayton, Ohio, I moved to Connecticut at age 4 and have been here ever since except for a 4 year stint working in Manhattan, NY. I received a Degree in Fine Art from the University of Bridgeport in 1964, and have completed the course work for a Masters in Art Education from there in 1968. My Masters program was cut short by my marriage. From 1968 onwards, I was involved with my family, divorcing my husband, and working to support my two wonderful children. I’m currently retired from work, and spending my time doing what I love - spinning, weaving, counted cross-stitch embroidery and renewing my long-time interest in the visual arts. |
I spin wool and cotton, and weave it into scarves, shawls, table runners and place mats for my family. I knit the wool into scarves and hats. The wool is naturally colored (as it comes off the sheep). The cotton is also naturally colored as it grows in white and tans. I have an 8-shaft table loom that allows me to create a myriad of woven patterns and textures.
My visual art is influenced by the Art Deco and 60’s Psychedelic periods and is, I think, whimsical and fun.
