Jack Lardis
Jack Lardis is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a B.F.A. degree.
He is a full-time painter and part-time sculptor, exhibiting extensively in New England, New York City and the Midwest, winning numerous awards along the way. He was a creative director for an international advertising agency and then his own firm in Connecticut, which he left to focus on his art.
Jack’s expressionist portrayals of famous and not-so-famous people come to life as he paints very large human faces in oil sticks and encaustic. His work has been exhibited in New England and New York City during the last 20 years. His portrayals are unique in their extreme cropping of the head, focusing on the eyes and mouth and eliminating any reference to style or time. His intent is to capture the inner power or 'dark' and mysterious side of a personality and tap into what he terms as the "internal sanctum" which everyone has buried deep within themselves. Emil Weddige, Professor Emeritus of Art at the university of Michigan, describes his art as "rich and powerful, at times, mysterious or whimsical. They reach out, each in their own separate way, to the viewer and give a message or raise a questioning search of conversation."
